6 #bossbabe Books That Changed My Life!
Why Do I Read? (Nerd Alert)
As far back as I can remember I have had my nose stuck in a book. This is a hobby of mine that started as an escape – reading a fairytale, a romance, a mystery. But now? You will find me reading about personal finance, personal development, and how to be a better leader. And I LOVE IT! The shift from fiction to nonfiction occurred when I was in 10th grade, prepping myself for college and a job search. The book I chose was “The Male Factor”. Although this book was a pivotal move, I did not include it on the list, but it was worth mentioning. After this read, I couldn’t stop searching for female empowerment books that would make me unstoppable.
Maybe that’s why I can’t stop my hobby of reading – it makes me feel unstoppable. The knowledge and motivation I can get for $10-$20 is 100% worth it! People are sharing valuable knowledge that we can revisit anytime! I personally feel they have all mentored me on a certain level (but I would probably fall over dead if any of these women actually became my mentor!) Now its time for you to curl up with one of these sexy books!
Here We Are Babes…My Top 6!
Okay – first off, I know its weird to have a list of 6 and not five, but we, sassy girls, are not meant to follow the quota, right?? So cheers to an extra #bossbabe book. Lets dive in!
1. She Means Business
By: Carrie Green
Summary: Are you ready to turn your ideas into reality and build a wildly success business? There has never been a better time to say yes! With a computer and an Internet connection you an get your ideas, messages, and business out there like never before and create so much success. In this book, Carrie Green shows you how.
What it did for me: Carrie literally distracted me from my life – school work? FORGET IT! But seriously, she created this beautiful creative space that made my dreams more of my realities. She kickstarted my motivation for creating this, Sassy Girl. If you don’t feel pumped up after this read – i genuinely think you didn’t actually read it! And as a bonus, as there are millions in this bad boy, it made me want to help other women become their best self and feel that sense of fireee!
2. Girl Code
By: Cara Alwill Leyba
Summary: I am witnessing a phenomenon. It seems as though a growing group women entrepreneurs all around the world has discovered the secret to success and happiness in both their lives and careers. It’s almost as though there is a hidden, underground world of power playing females who have all cracked a magical code: they think positively, they support one another, and they truly believe they can have it all -and you can, too.
What it did for me: Holy. Crap. Babe. Cara – if this doesn’t scream female empowerment I honestly don’t know what does! An individual is powerful but a group of women, who understands their strengths, is deadly – success is so close its scary. Cara makes digging deep in your soul a little less intimidating – she changed me on an atomic level..like I seriously think every one of my cells vibrates at a whole new level! Epic. Babe. Epic!
3. Rich Bitch
By: Nicole Lapin
Summary: Talking about money sucks – but so does being broke. Do your eyes glaze over just thinking about the mumbo-jumbo language of finance? Do you break out into hives when faced with getting your financial life together? Well, sister, you are not alone. In RICH BITCH, money expert and financial journalist Nicole Lapin lays out a 12-Step Plan in which she shares her experiences—mistakes and all—of getting her own finances in order. She talks to you not like a lecturer but as your friend. And even though money is typically an “off-limits” conversation, nothing is off-limits here.
What it did for me: So I study accounting and finance…I should totally own my personal finances right? WRONG! lol…I know theory, but Nicole? She knows action and real life highs and lows that shape our financial health. Sure, she talks numbers, but she also talks life – REAL life. The ups, the downs, the wtf’s of living as a young woman! She makes it easy, she makes you feel like you actually have this whole “adulting” thing under control.
4. The Female Brain
By: Louann Brizedine
Summary: This comprehensive new look at the hormonal roller coaster that rules women’s lives down to the cellular level, “a user’s guide to new research about the female brain and the neurobehavioral systems that make us women,” offers a trove of information, as well as some stunning insights. Though referenced like a work of research, Brizedine’s writing style is fully accessible.
What it did for me: Holy Crap. We have always heard the jokes about female brains being crazy and male’s being simple, but holy crap did I not know how true that was! This book helped me understand why my brain and body did (does) what it did (does). You may be thinking…okay? so? So, it gave me a sense of calm. A sense of “oh yeah, I guess I’m not insane, I just need to control that crazy upstairs of mine.” – wild…I know! Give it a read you will understand. Louann puts crazy science into terms you and me can comprehend and holy crap did I feel unstoppable once I understood my internal functions a little better. Stop fighting anatomy – understand it and own it!
5. Find Your Extra Ordinary
By: Jessica Herrin
Summary: What if you could, with a little effort, live an extraordinary life? A life in which you felt deep passion for everything you did, and always had time for what matters most? A life in which you had the power, the daring, and the will to make your boldest dreams come true, all while you happily left feelings of inadequacy or guilt behind? Here, Jessica Herrin, serial entrepreneur and founder and CEO of the Stella & Dot Family Brands, shows how the classic traits of successful entrepreneurs are ones each one of us can develop – and use not only to create a company, but also to create an extraordinary life.
What it did for me: I wanted to shout from the highest mountain top ” I AM EXTRA-ORDINARILY ME BITCHES” Wow. Keep pushing, keep developing, and never stop being you seemed to ring in my head the whole time I was reading this book. Again, it’s all about making that search inside yourself a little less scary and more exciting with every page you flip (in the book and in your life!).
6. Work Party
By: Jaclyn Johnson
Summary: Jaclyn Johnson—the founder and CEO behind Create & Cultivate, the fastest growing online platform and conference for millennial women in business— offers a rallying cry for a new generation of women who are redefining the meaning of work on their own terms: WorkParty. Women who want it all and more, and guess what? They can have it.
What it did for me: This is my most recent read and it knocked my socks off earning its spot here on this list of my favs! It literally teaches you how to be a #girlboss on so many levels – personal and professional. She makes you realize how “human” we all really are. We all make a poor choice here and there and thats a-okay! It’s all about being able to dig deep within and knowing we will make it out alive if we put our hair up, drink some coffee, and hustle! This was my final push to setting plans on paper for my true passion – The Sassy Girl Project – so Jaclyn, if you ever see this.. THANK YOU SIS! You truly have changed my mindset and have made me so hungry for that moment of “ah-ha…lets do this babe.”
Time for Action Sis!
