Spring Scrub

Hello Spring Skin with These Spring Face Scrubs!

Helllllo Spring! Bye-Bye dull winter skin! Here are my favorite face scrubs for everyone to try! I gave a sneak peak on Instagram – check it out here – If you aren’t following us yet, you should! Sorry to break it to yah, girlfriend, but you’re missing out on so much fun!

So, is it just me, or has there been a so much buzz around making your own face scrubs – hello Pinterest! Why? Well they are cheaper, usually contain all natural ingredients, and are better for our environment. Many of the face scrubs we buy at the store contain plastic beads – yikes for your face, your drainage system, and the environment (shout out to my girl, Madi Hill, for bringing that to my attention!). Store bought face scrubs and masks are so last spring lol – lets get fresh with these natural, super easy, HAVE TO TRY face scrubs and masks!

A few notes – before you go on a Pinterest clicking frenzy for new face scrubs and masks, know your skin! Does your skin tend to be more oily, dry, sensitive? And before you try any mask or scrub, be sure to test them out on the inside of your wrist before rubbing it onto your face! If it burns, just rinse it off – no harm done! Everyone’s skin is different so listen and watch how it reacts. Lastly, try to not over-exfoliate that beautiful face of yours! We all have a natural oil balance and we don’t want to mess with it too much or we may damage our skin or cause acne flare ups and that is a big no-no!

Okay, onward we go – to the fun stuff! As long as I can remember, I have always been mixing up different ingredients to get rid of my breakouts and have a bright, even complexion (sorry for stealing half your kitchen mom & dad!) And ladies – I am so excited to share my favorites with you! Lets get spring ready – glowing and fresh! Out With the Old – Exfoliation

Step 1 – Get rid of that dull-winter skin girl! Try out these amazing exfoliating scrubs.

Coffee Exfoliating Scrub – Get rid of dead cells and bring some life to that face! Coffee scrubs help brighten and tighten your skin all while battling dark spots and inflammation. As you all know, I am a coffee lover, so of course this is number one on my list!

Recipe:

  • 3 tablespoons ground coffee
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil (or desired amount to make a paste)

Mix all of the above ingredients together then massage it gently in circular motions on your face for 1 – 2 minutes. Let the mixture sit on your face for a minute or two then wipe it off with wash cloth soaked in warm water. (Don’t forget to splash your face with cold water after to close your pores and keep all the dirt out!)

Simple Lemon Sugar Scrub – This scrub is so simple yet so powerful! Say good-bye to acne scaring and dark spots. This scrub with brighten your skin tone, and as a bonus, it only has three ingredients and smells amazing.

Recipe

  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup honey
  • 1/2 of a lemon’s juice

Mix all the above ingredients and massage into your face while saying adiós to dead skin cells and dark spots!

Bye-Bye Dry – Moisturizer

Step 2 – Soak up all these beautiful moisturizers and recover from dry winter skin.

Honey Coconut – Are you ready to feel like you’re on an island far, far away? Yeah, me too girl, me too! This simply delicious face mask will make you feel like the goddess of islands. Honey not only has strong antibacterial properties (see-yah acne prone pores), but is full of antioxidants to repair your skin.

Recipe

  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil
  • 1 1/2 honey
  • 1 – 2 drop of lavender (it is up to you if you want to add this, but I always do! Love the relaxing scent!)

Mix honey and coconut oil then add in lavender if you choose to include it in your face mask! Most of the time, you will have to throw this bad boy in the fridge for five minutes so it thickens, then you can apply it to your face without it dripping off in two seconds! Leave mask on for five to ten minutes and rinse off.

The Whole Kitchen – okay, sorry, this one is a little bit more complicated, but it is soooo worth it! This mask will nourish your skin deeply and regenerate the dull dry skin from the winter.

Recipe

  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 2 teaspoons Honey

Mash up the avocado and banana in a bowl until it is in a paste-like consistency. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolk then add all four ingredients together. Apply to your face and let sit for five minutes and rinse.

Oh Hey Sunshine – Brightening

Step 3 – Hello sunshine! Lets even out our skin tone and get ready to shine like the sun!

Apple Cider Vinegar Facial Toner – Say goodbye to expense store bought toners that have an ingredients list that, well, honestly, I can’t pronounce and takes up the whole side of the bottle! This toner is safe to use every morning and has been a game changer for me! I have sensitive skin and this baby didn’t bother me at all.

Recipe

  • 1 part apple cider vinegar
  • 4 parts water, or
  • 4 parts herbal tea (optional, this will replace the water. If you do choose the tea, store your toner in the fridge)
  • optional – essential oils of your choice (lavender or tea tree are popular!)

If you use tea: Brew your favorite herbal tea – personally, I always stick to green tea – and add in apple cider vinegar (and essential oils if you would like). Using a cotton ball, lightly rub the toner to your gorgeous face and neck. No need to wash this off! I use this in the morning instead of foundation – it evens and brightens my skin tone and allows my skin to breathe.

If you use water: mix water and apple cider vinegar and apply with cotton ball as directed above.

Extra Tip: You can also buy a spray bottle and spray to your face in the morning if you would like!

That Coconut Lemon Glow – this face mask with refresh your skin with lemon’s brightening powers and yogurt’s hydrating properties!

Recipe

  • 1/2 tablespoon melted coconut oil
  • lemon juice from 1/2 of a lemon
  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt

Mix all three ingredients together and apply a thick coat to your face. Leave the mix on your face for five to ten minutes then rinse off with warm water.
